Wow. Just wow.
This book mostly exists because so many fans wanted to know what's going on between Trent and Rachel and therefore Kim came up with the solution to just put them into a car for 3000 miles. Soo, Rachel has to attend a witch conference in San Francisco to get her shunning removed while Trent has to go to Seattle on an elf quest. On their trip they are accompanied by Pierce, the coven witch Vivian, and of course, Ivy and Jenks. Oh, and a day-walking demon which was freed by Trent. Stupid elf. This mixes up to a pretty funny and pretty thrilling community.
But, although the road-trip-part takes up a lot of space, the real action kicks off when they are at the convention. And after the convention. And in the everafter. And and and Rachel has never kissed so many people in one book I think.
I can understand why Pale Demon is Kim’s favorite book in the series. More than twice my jaw dropped and hung open for several pages! An incredible, fast-paced, funny and thrilling book, which no Hollows fan can avoid.
Just one last question: when is it finally July???
"Yeah," Jenks said, voice muffled from the brownie. "You just click your heels and think there's no place like being pwned." (216)
Jenks to Trent about their little "family":
"Rache is the little sister. Ivy's the big sister. I'm the uncle from out of state, and you're the rich nephew no one likes but we put up with you anyway because we feel sorry for you." (222)
First few chapters here
Someone is stealing babies with Rosewood syndrome. Suddenly, Nick is back in town...
Ku'Sox has damaged Rachel's ley line and it slowly sucks up the ever after.
Al gets seriously hurt and can't help her.
Ivy is out of town and can't help her.
Ray and Ceri get abducted.
Quen gets hurt and is in a hospital.
And then Trent gets abducted, too...
It's fantastic! After the almost disappointing last book, this one blew my mind. It's fast-paced, it's exciting, it's tragic, it's beautiful.
Most of the team is back together - which is what I really missed about the Rachel-only storyline last book.

This is the penultimate (second-to-last) novel *sniffsniff* and it's superawesome. Cincinatti and the Hollows suffer from strange waves that cause magic to misfire, which causes dramatic explosions and victims. At the same time, the vampiric masters fall asleep and don't wake up at sundown.
Rachel and her friends - now more than ever since David brings his whole pack, Ivy has Nina as support and Trent constantly hangs around - find out the who, why and where and have to stop the chaos. But new friends aren't the only ones: new foes also appear, this time in form of Trent's elf friends who don't like seeing one of their endangered species with a demonic friend. And if that isn't enough, there's still Ellasbeth, who tries to steal the girls from Trent and Quen.
Lots to do, lots to see, a world to save. Fast-paced, action-packed, funny as hell and finally with some new "horizontal fandango" (Jenks) action, this would've made a fine final novel. Thankfully, there's still one left!
"I'm going crazy, and I think I like it."

sniffle. A very sad year for Urban Fantasy series lovers. But, alas, good news: instead of having to wait until February
2015, the last Hollows novel comes out September 9, 2014!
Rachel and the gang have to fight Landon and the elven dewar once more - they want to close all the ley lines and let the ever after wither and die (and all the demons with it). But this would also destroy all magic and of course, Rachel can't let that happen.
It's the final Hollows novel and it is absolutely beautiful. I was a bit worried how everything is going to end, if there will be loose ends or if the ending will suck, but it is perfect. Everything comes together, "everyone gets their happy ending - well, those who survive" [Kim], and no questions are left to ask.
It is exciting and one hell of a ride, from beginning to end one is absolutely breathless. The last 200 pages were so stunning, that I ignored my bf for some hours until I had finished.
The last chapter is a look ahead. Like in Harry Potter, but much much better. It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling seeing the gang still together and everything worked out for everyone. It's beautiful and you can say goodbye with a teary and a grinning eye.
I am very excited to see what Kim has in stall for us next year, with a new trilogy.
The last word has Al, in an extra e-short "Sudden Backtrack". But that's not the same story from Al's POV, but a story from
the past, about his hatred for elves and how Newt became crazy.
