Neil Gaiman & Colleen Doran ~ Snow, Glass, Apples ♠♠♠♠♠

One word: Breathtaking. Another word: Gorgeous. Stunning. Overwhelming. So overwhelming in fact, that I cannot write this review in German.

This is the story of Snow White, as told from the stepmother. There's an awesome twist to it, which I don't want to spoil, but it fits perfectly with gloomy Halloween-vibes. So if you intend to partake in Neil's All Hallows Read, read this one!

Doran's illustrations are absolutely breathtaking and although the book has only 84 pages, you need to take your time with this masterpiece, because you can stare at each illustration for hours and still discover a new swirl, a new hint, a new delight - just look at the first picture below!

You can also very clearly see her obsession with Harry Clarke's glass-illustrations (again, see comparison in pictures below). It is, in fact, a mix of Clarke and meditative Mandala-swirls. I don't want to know how long it took to colour each detail.

Important information: this book, just like Stardust, is not suitable for children! It is closer to Grimm's original with sex and violence!
